“We need this tomorrow morning!” Peter Fruehstueck, CTO of Austrian based Handlerbau, no longer dreads this sentence. The throughput of 12.000 sqm per year, produced by 27 CAD operators, is now handled with ease by reprocontrol.net in conjunction with an HP 4500 and a bayCompact online folding machine.
Handlerbau is the second largest construction company in Austria, planning and realizing everything from residential homes to prestigious building projects like the expansion and renovation of Vienna’s famous Hotel Regina.
More and more architects prefer to deliver HPGL and PDF files via CD or email, rather than sending paper plans. “Typically about 100 of these plans come in shortly before closing time, but have to be printed and folded by 5:30am next morning”, Mr Fruehstueck explains. With the plans from the external contractors, as well as with their own CAD output, the workload got too much for the existing HP 500 and Océ diazo machine.
Handlerbau initially considered installing an Océ TCS 500 system, but long-term supplier ‘CAD Zubehoer’ outlined the benefits of the reprocontrol.net complete solution, and arranged for a demonstration. Handlerbau was immediately impressed, and the subsequent evaluation installation convinced the company – the end result being that the complete system was installed in May 2007.
Peter Fruehstueck: “What is very important to us is the security aspect, combined with the cost tracking and accounting”. Of all 27 operators, only 2 have Administrator rights. Three operators can access all queues and adjust the job priorities. All other CAD users can only access their own jobs. Following corporate IT guidelines, the reprocontrol server is safely installed in Handlerbau’s secure datacenter, from which point it remotely operates the bayCompact folding machine. And equally important: machine status information is backchannelled to the administrator.
“We have been doing CAD since the early nineties, but I have hardly ever seen such a dramatic improvement in productivity”, concludes Mr. Fruehstueck. “I highly recommend reprocontrol.net, especially in conjunction with the Bay folding machines”.
